After last year's Barcamp, where our topic was digital 3D objects in collections and museums and their use as research data, this year we would like to shed light with you on how well thought-out digitisation, especially in the field of 3D, can actively contribute to the protection of cultural heritage.

The accompanying digitisation of mobile and immobile cultural heritage objects, as well as intangible cultural heritage, is becoming increasingly important in view of global, sometimes multiple crisis situations such as climate change and armed conflicts. In mid-December, we would therefore like to offer an exchange platform specifically on the topic of (3D) digitisation for the protection of cultural assets with our fourth 4Culture Barcamp as Advent edition.
This year, Blue Shield Germany, the German national committee of Blue Shield International, which is a registered non-profit organisation based in Berlin and works at national and international level to protect tangible and intangible cultural heritage in conflict, disaster and other emergency situations, will be supporting us with its expertise.
Prof. Franziska Klemstein (Academy of Sciences and Literature and Mainz University of Applied Sciences and Vice President of Blue Shield Germany e.V.) will open the event on behalf of Blue Shield Germany with a brief impulse on the importance of the digital dimension of cultural heritage.
We are also delighted to welcome Prof. Hubert Mara from the Ada Lovelace Center at the Free University of Berlin as this year's guest speaker, who will use examples in his Inspiration Talk to delve deeper into the topic of 3D digitisation and cultural heritage protection.
In the subsequent sessions, we would like to explore with you the question of the scenarios in which (3D) digitisation can help to secure our knowledge of cultural assets and protect them better. Example topics could be the materialised documentation of intangible cultural heritage, damage monitoring, assisted restoration or the reconstruction of lost physical cultural heritage objects.
Your questions, examples and discussions can serve as a basis for formulating requirements for a digitisation strategy for the precautionary protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Projects can also be presented here and like-minded people can be found.
This barcamp serves to initiate an exchange, to network and to gain new insights together. Bring your experiences and thoughts on digitisation and the protection of cultural assets - all ideas are welcome.
As always, the knowledge lies with you, the digitisation and 3D community. This is your opportunity to have your say!
If you have any questions, we will be happy to help and look forward to receiving a short message at coordination-office@nfdi4culture.de. We would also be very happy to forward the event announcement to your peer groups, professional associations and circles.
But above all, we look forward to seeing you
Your Orga-Team
