Culture Community Plenary 5 in Mainz
The 5th Culture Community Plenary will take place as a face-to-face event in Mainz from 24th until 26th September 2025.
As a joint annual meeting of NFDI4Culture, the Culture Community Plenary (CCP) is an important place for intensive communication between the consortium's staff and its community, which consists of many disciplines and facets, as well as for the researchers and creators within the communities themselves. NFDI4Culture would like to use this opportunity once again to report on the status of its work and the latest activities and services, and of course – to draw attention to upcoming projects.
Call: Poster contributions for the Market of Opportunities at the Culture Community Plenary 5
With the Market of Opportunities (Friday, 26.09.2025 10:00–12:30), we are once again offering an exchange format on site this year, where projects and services of NFDI4Culture, but also participants and partners of the consortium can present themselves and get into conversation with each other. Market visitors are cordially invited to give a short market speech (max. 2 minutes) in our Speakers' Corner to draw attention to their own market stand, event or good idea.
Would you like to be represented with your poster at the Market of Opportunities? All contributions are welcome. Please send us a short description of the poster by 15.07.2025.

2:00–5:00 pm WORKSHOPS (on site only)
Base4NFDI Services
This interactive workshop enables participants to better understand Base4NFDI and our basic services under development and to find points of contact within their own consortium. In addition to an overview of our development framework and the associated quality assurance aspects, all services will be presented and discussed together. There will also be a deep dive into our basic services DMP4NFDI (data & software management plan service) and TS4NFDI (terminology services).
Chair: Franziska Fritzsche, Jana Tatscheck, Thomas Bauer
Environmentally conscious research data management
Environmentally conscious research data management is important in order to reduce the ecological footprint of research data. Unlike organizational aspects such as air travel or paper consumption, the resource consumption of our digital data tends to be hidden – and its volume continues to grow. In addition to the size of the storage space required, the methods, technical processes and storage procedures used are also relevant, as they generally entail high energy requirements, material consumption and emissions. Our working group “DMPs for Environmentally Friendly RDM” within the NFDI cross-section “Common Infrastructures” is working on a guideline for green, efficient, resource- and energy-saving research data management. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the topic and then continue in the form of a World Café to discuss ways to improve environmental sustainability in terms of workflows, hardware, software, data publication and archiving.
Chair: Lisa Rosendahl, Katharina Bergmann, Janine Straka, Giacomo Lanza
Python 101 for the Humanities
This workshop targets people with a background in the humanities and aims to familiarize them with the basics of programming with Python. We will work with a tabular data set, search, analyze and visualize it. Participants will learn about the logic of Python and discuss in groups how this programming language can support quantitative humanities research.
Chair: Golnaz Sarkar Farshi
Data Stories
Archives, libraries and collections hold immeasurable treasures of data. Inventory lists, correspondence, historical newspaper articles, art collections – they are all more than just silent witnesses to the past. When brought to life, they can tell us fascinating stories about human destinies, cultural developments and forgotten connections.
But how do we bring this data to life? How do we transform unmanageable RDF triples and abstract information into a compelling narrative?
This workshop is aimed at anyone who is curious to discover the narrative potential of their own research data. We view (RDF) data not as cold facts, but as traces, fragments and echoes of the past from which we, like archaeologists, can reconstruct a story. So-called ‘data stories’ are the key to not only analysing complex research results, but also presenting them to a wider audience in a way that is understandable, accessible and captivating.
