When LIDO 1.1 was released in 2021, several changes were introduced to enable a more qualitative and nuanced representation of object metadata. LIDO Version 1.0, which has been in use since 2010, has been expanded in some areas and now includes new elements and attributes. Additionally, LIDO 1.1 supports SKOS and OWL namespaces, improving the integration of controlled vocabularies into LIDO datasets. LIDO 1.1 is backward-compatible with LIDO 1.0. This means that all LIDO 1.0 datasets remain valid instances of the current version.
Comprehensive documentation for LIDO 1.1 is available online. All element descriptions have been rewritten to present technical information more clearly, and the schema has been expanded to include new validation options, known as Schematron rules. During the event, we will present the most important new features of LIDO 1.1 and examine them in more detail using examples.
The second part of the training focuses on mapping for LIDO exports. This involves mapping the elements of your database to the elements of the LIDO data model. Converting export formats from collection management systems to LIDO for data provision and/or data delivery to aggregators, portals and knowledge graphs is one of the most time-consuming procedures in data curation. We will demonstrate when mapping is useful and the potential issues that can arise during the process. To illustrate our points, we have prepared a practical exercise to teach you the steps in a clear and straightforward manner.
This training course is aimed at individuals with basic or advanced knowledge of LIDO who are setting up a LIDO-compatible collection database or preparing their collection data for publication.
Please note that this course does not offer a basic introduction to the LIDO format. For this, please refer to our workshop slides from 30 April 2026 (in German), as well as the LIDO training course in NFDI4Culture (in German).
