The NFDI4Culture task areas are modelled according to the research data lifecycle in order to build a sustainable, needs-based research data infrastructure. As in everyday research data management, a variety of expertise is required at different stages of a project to ensure data is being handled in a sustainable manner. Consequently, the people who are actively involved in the process of capturing and enriching data are not necessarily responsible for publishing and archiving the research data, too. However, to achieve best possible research outputs, close cooperation becomes essential at exactly those points. To foster this collaboration, the task areas "Data capture and enrichment of digital cultural assets" (TA 1) and "Data publication and data availability" (TA 4) jointly host a forum on 12th May 2022, 10am - 1.30pm which focuses particularly on digital preservation of 3D data. The aim of this event is to provide suppliers of 3D data as well as repository providers a platform for exchange and an opportunity to collaboratively address their needs and challenges.

The Presentations will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to 3D digitisation, 3D modelling, 3D annotations, 3D reconstruction
  • Rendering 3D models with kompakkt and DFG-3D-Viewer
  • Basics of digital preservation with particular focus on the challenges around the preservation of 3D data
  • Presentation of selected repositories and the status quo of 3D data archiving

After the presentations, there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and exchange.
