This year, the NFDI4Culture consortium is awarding five travel grants to film and media scholars in the early stages of their careers to attend this year’s annual conference of the Society for Media Studies (GfM) in Hamburg. The grants are intended for research assistants, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers affiliated with a German university. We would particularly like to promote academic networking and exchange on research data management, data-driven methods and research questions, as well as findings in the field of (im)material cultural heritage.

Funding: A total of five travel grants, each worth a maximum of 500 €, will be awarded. The grants are intended exclusively to cover travel and lodging expenses for the GfM conference. Other costs cannot be covered.

Requirements and Guidelines:

• Brief outline of the research project or submitted presentation (approx. 250 words)

• Short biography (approx. 100 words)

• Following the visit, we require a brief report on the experience, which will be published on the Culture Information Portal (including references to publications, if applicable)

Note: Applications may only be submitted by individuals affiliated with a German university. Travel expenses must be reimbursed no later than 4 weeks after the end of the business trip.
The application deadline is September 18, 2026; please send the required documents to coordination-office@nfdi4culture.de.

We look forward to receiving your application!
