A small, informal twitter poll of four questions on the relevance of sustainability criteria when selecting software for a research project has been conducted in the week between the 25th of August and the 1st of September.

All participants agreed on a high or very high relevance of software sustainability and almost 90% stated that the sustainability of software in question impacts their decision strongly or very strongly.

The community was split in how they described their ability to judge the sustainability of research software: most stated they find it rather easy or rather hard. It is also considered rather time consuming process by most participants.

The poll shows a high awareness of sustainability aspects among members of the community who participated and it points in the direction, that ease of assessment and the time spent on it can be improved upon.
