NFDI4Culture Metadata API
Metadata of all resources as Linked Open Data
The NFDI4Culture portal offers all content as Linked Open Data over this RESTful API. The API implements the Hydra-Specification of the W3C Hydra Community Group. The semantic description of this API can be retrieved by clients via the Hydra documentation file (JSON). Each metadata record offered via this API can also be retrieved in one of following machine-readable LOD serializations. The API is the basis for the Culture Research Information Graph, which together with the Culture Research Data Graph forms the Culture Knowledge Graph (for more details see this presentation).

At its meeting on July 4, 2025, the Joint Science Conference of the Federal and State Governments (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz des Bundes und der Länder, GWK) decided on nine continuation applications from consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). The NFDI4Culture consortium received a positive funding decision for a second project phase. We are delighted about this together with the consortia KonsortSWD, NFDI4Biodiversity, NFDI4Cat, NFDI4Chem, DataPLANT, GHGA, NFDI4Health and NFDI4Ing.
In the first funding phase from 2020 to 2025, the NFDI4Culture consortium established a Germany-wide research data infrastructure that offers a diverse range of consulting and training services, repositories for long-term preservation and tools for searching and linking data on tangible and intangible cultural assets.
In the second funding phase from 2025, NFDI4Culture will pursue the motto “Shared Data, Shared Practice, Shared Knowledge”. With 17 new partners, the consortium is also tapping into new data areas, particularly in the performing arts and film heritage. In addition to the consolidation of existing services, the focus from 2025 will be on measures for data sovereignty, resilience and data quality of culture-related research infrastructures, the use of artificial intelligence and the integration of services into European infrastructures such as the European Open Science Cloud.
We cordially invite you to celebrate, look back and look ahead to the 5th NFDI4Culture Community Plenary, from September 24-26, 2020 in Mainz!
