Data management plans help plan all data projects and ensure quality at all stages of the data lifecycle by describing how research data will be handled. For this reason, they are now mandatory in funding applications. A typical data management plan contains modules on project information, data collection and processing, data documentation, data security concept, legal framework, reuse and data structure. In addition to generic templates provided by funders, there is a tendency to tailor data management plans to the specific needs of communities or organisations. Tools should be interoperable with other services. Templates for data management plans should support researchers and data providers alike in their planning process and raise awareness of sustainable data management. They should be both standardised and flexible enough to be adaptable to as many projects as possible.

The DMP4NFDI base service aims to address these issues. As a product of the cross-cutting Common Infrastructures section of the NFDI Association, data management plans have been identified as a useful infrastructure component for sharing by all NFDIs. The Research Data Management Organiser (RDMO) is a powerful tool for creating and maintaining data management plans. The tasks of DMP4NFDI include linking the consortia, developing subject specific templates for DMPs (catalogues), refining the requirements, technical development of the RDMO, and training and support.

Within NFDI4Culture, the RDMO is now available as a free service to all members with access (co-applicants, participants and collaborators). Users can develop data management plans according to their own requirements (catalogues) or use existing templates from funding bodies. Templates from the DFG and the European Commission are already available. There is also a template for a Software Management Plan. Other templates can be integrated on request, see here. The export function ensures that the catalogues can be reused in different contexts. For questions regarding the content of data management plans and the RDMO tool, please contact NFDI4Culture Helpdesk [LINK]. The NFDI-Service DMP4NFDI provides technical support for RDMO and welcomes suggestions for enhancements or innovative uses.
