The online portal Deutsche Inschriften Online (DIO) is one of the largest epigraphic platforms, offering numerous medieval and early modern inscription articles with illustrations. It is continuously updated with new finds and corrections, and some volumes include interactive media such as zoomable floor plans or virtual tours. All volumes are mapped geographically, and in addition to digitised print editions, there are also born-digital publications. Articles, introductions, and bibliographies have persistent identifiers and are citable. A full-text search and thematic bridges allow cross-regional research. The project’s goal is to digitise the entire Deutsche Inschriften series and make it accessible online, in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz and the Digital Media & Computational Methods research unit at the University of Münster.
