Tell us what you need: Semantic Kompakkt and IIIF for 3D – making web interoperability multi-dimensional

The Semantic Kompakkt team is actively involved in the IIIF-3D community and is contributing to the Technical Specification Group. We wrote about our activities in the past year for the EuropeanaTech community blog. More recently, we attended the IIIF-3D community meeting in Washington, DC, where we were able to work intensively with the Group to develop new concepts and share our expertise.

We are currently in the process of implementing the newly created manifests as example demo use cases in the Kompakkt viewer. You can find more information here.

Our goal is to be able to exchange 3D models and annotations with other viewer software applications.

We would like to actively involve the NFDI4Culture community in this effort in order to keep development tightly focused on the priorities of our users. We are currently evaluating which IIIF manifest-features might be most helpful. A key question is whether the possibility to load several 3D models at once within the same view (scene) has practical research use cases for our community.

We have prepared a small survey for this here and look forward to receiving your feedback. Please let us know how we can support you and take part.

Thank you very much and if you have any questions, please send us a short message:
