Collection of General Data

When you visit this website, information about your visit (IP address, date, time, page viewed) is stored. This data (server log files) does not allow any conclusions to be drawn with respect to your person. This data is generated when using online services and is used to ensure the correct rendering and display of the website, as well as for systems security. It is processed for the following purposes: ensuring a disruption-free connection and the seamless use of the website, ensuring system integrity and defence against cyberattacks. The processing of the personal data establishes a legitimate interest for the aforementioned purposes of data collection. The sole recipients of the data are the data controller and, if applicable, contract processors. The data is anonymised and evaluated for statistical purposes only. It is not passed on to third parties for commercial or non-commercial purposes. We expressly point out that data transmission via the Internet (e.g. communication by e-mail) is subject to security vulnerabilities and cannot be completely protected against unauthorised third-party access.

Personal Data

Only the personal data that is strictly necessary is collected when using the NFDI4Culture website and services. Many services can also be used without the need to provide personal data. Where data is collected, this is undertaken only with your consent.

Protected services are subject to registration, including name, e-mail address and institution. This data, as well as other optional data stored there, can be accessed through the NFDI4Culture Account Service. This data is collected to enable personalised use of the desired services and to meet the requirements of the authentication and authorisation infrastructure in the German Research Network (DFN-AAI) basic level identity assurance. When using the NFDI4Culture infrastructure, your data may be passed on to connected services of partners.

To enable communication via the contact form, the data entered (name, e-mail address, subject, selected area, message text) as well as information on the time of the request (time stamp or date sent) is saved and forwarded to the Helpdesk Team. The request is sent to those staff members who are responsible for the area concerned in each case. The information is stored for as long as necessary for the further processing of the request and for subsequent documentation purposes (if necessary, limited to the basic data of the request). The basis for forwarding in the context of the enquiry and processing is therefore the consent of the person making the enquiry in accordance with Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 lit. a General Data Processing Regulation (GDPR) The documentation of the processes within the framework of the research project, on the other hand, is based on our own legitimate interest in documentation, i.e. in accordance with Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 lit. f GDPR.

All personal data is stored only for as long as is necessary for the purpose stated in each case. Any applicable statutory storage periods will be observed.

Data Recipient

The data recipient is the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz. Additional data recipients are the National Research Data Infrastructure Germany (NFDI) and Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.

Web Analytics

Our website uses Matomo, an open source software for statistical analysis of website traffic. Matomo uses ‘cookies’, which are small text files that are stored on your computer, to help the website analyse how visitors use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is stored by the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz. The IP address is anonymised immediately after processing and before it is stored. You can prevent cookies from being stored on your computer by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser, but this may have a negative impact on the usability of the website.

Friendly Captcha

We use Friendly Captcha to protect the online forms on the website against misuse such as spam messages from automated entries. This involves an exchange of data between the user’s browser and the servers of Friendly Captcha GmbH, in the course of which anonymised IP addresses and technical data relating to the browser used and the domain visited by the user are processed. This pertains specifically to headers with the following information:

  • User-Agent: Technical information about browser type and version, any add-ons installed and information about the operating system used, e.g. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/118.0
  • Origin: Source domain of the request, https://nfdi4culture.de
  • Referer: Address from which the request was submitted, https://nfdi4culture.de/

Rights to Information, Rectification, Erasure and Complaints Procedures

Pursuant to the GDPR, you have the right to information about which data pertaining to you has been collected, and to have that information corrected or deleted immediately. If you believe that your rights under the GDPR have been violated, please contact the Data Protection Officer of the Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz. The Data Protection Officer will investigate the matter within the statutory time limit and advise you accordingly. This does not affect your right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority responsible for the Academy in data protection matters, the Data Protection Authority for the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
